Museum page link(s)

On the Main Page should we add a link to the museum page? Or should we build a 'Museum Shorts' section on the Main Page for links to these shorts?
--Eishagishi 19:14, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

  • I have always wanted a top-level link to the Museum page but have been to lazy to create one and locate it appropriately. The way the Main page currently looks, the shorts could all probably go into "other", but perhaps the Main page needs a bit of a restructure anyway...

    • The main page does need an overhaul, it's functional but not inviting. In the meanwhile adding a museum link is fine. --LLin 01:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Non-Ghibli films

I've got some candidates to be considered for inclusion in the 'Pre-Ghibli/Non-Ghibli' section of the Main Page, namely: Iblard Time, Nights of Taneyamagahara, Ghibli Artisan - Kazuo Oga Exhibition, A, and Scenery of Ghibli, The. If these titles are to be included, I suppose we'll have to come up with some new main page icons for them since none exist on the old website.

Also have a question: How far do we go with listing "Non-Ghibli" films here, especially for noting the work of other Ghibli staff members? For instance, Studio Ghibli art directors Nizo Yamamoto and Kazuo Oga both worked on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Tokikake) - is that film a candidate for the Non-Ghibli section (e.g. Kumokaze) ? --Eishagishi 19:25, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Six degrees of separation is probably too much but that film is close enough in relationship.
--LLin 06:14, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Lawrence. I'll add Tokikake to the pile I'm working.
--Eishagishi 08:49, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Another question re: Non-Ghibli, and early works - I'm going through some of the orphaned pages and planning to add links to some of them on the Main Page. Also planning to add a link to the Non-Ghibli page in the last section of the Main Page. My question about the Early Works page is this: There is no reference to The Adventures of Hols - Prince of the Sun. Should that page be linked separately from the last Main Page, or from within page Early Works?

Other language localizations

Parts of Nausicaa.net have been localized into other languages (Spanish, I think, at least). Is there an idea to accomodate different language versions of the same article in GhibliWiki? If so, and one would want to go and add a translation, how should it be tackled? --Elmimmo 04:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

The issue hasn't been addressed but translations can only be a good thing. I'm leaning towards handling translations in the page title. The language could be appended to the end of the title in the native spelling. If something is started another page should be created to coordinate styles etc.
--LLin 23:19, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Another possibility would be to do what Wikipedia does with other languages: en.nausicaa.net, ja.nausicaa.net, es.nausicaa.net, etc. --nihonTalk 07:42, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
If we did do this, and we could get the fans working on those other versions, it would make NN the ultimate Ghibli site in any language, I think. --nihonTalk 15:59, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
I still think this might be worth exploring, especially if we could get Ryoko working on the Japanese one (or at least see if we could move her stuff to it, if she still has it). --nihonTalk 00:58, 14 May 2013 (CDT)

Misc coding issues

Trying to eliminate the "index.php" in the URL, if odd errors occur when a page loads it's probably me breaking apache. I usually revert the settings right away if they don't work so just wait 30 seconds or so before reloading. LLin 17:55, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Some proposed new icons for discussion

Hope everyone's enjoying their turkey (or whatever floats their boat) today! Here's some proposed future Main Page icons for discussion and/or trashing:

I'm not really happy with some of these - need thoughts/suggestions. Also, haven't found any images yet from Takahata's upcoming The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. And still playing around with ideas for the 'Miyazaki Musuem' and 'Miyazaki CD' ones.

Also have another question: Do we assign a 'Shorts' page for Takahata and staff's one-minute segment for the 2003 Winter Days? Oops, I hear a piece of pecan pie calling me. Ja ne!
Eishagishi 01:34, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

The compression artifacts are really harsh. Need cleaner source material but DVDs of some of the stuff will be hard to come by, maybe someone on the MML can dump some footage. I don't see a problem with a page for the "Winter Days" segment.
--LLin 20:08, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah - I used the highest rez sources I could find without doing DVD screen grabs, which I'll try next (of the DVDs that I have). A lot of this particular artwork is low contrast and without the bold lines that survive compression well. I'll play around, 'er experiment some more, starting with the capsule music videos.
--Eishagishi 22:47, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Deleted now-active icons from this section. Will keep an eye out for better rez artwork for future improvements.

Sprited Away and Pink Floyds "Dark Side of the Moon"

My wife, cousins, and I were watching Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon when the the Oz dvd skipped and wouldn't play. We had just watched Spirited Away the night before and decided to try and see if Pink Floyd and Spirited away would work together. I pushed play on Dark Side of the Moon at the moment the Title for the movie came up. IT WORKED. The whole way through the film. The album played through about three times and it was wonderful to watch. I suggest you give it a try.

Books / Mangas

I think we should seperate Mangas from Books. Its true that the navigation on the old nausicaa.net website was a bit confusing but with the GhibliWiki we can clearly list each category on the availability listing. I've browsed the book listings of other movies and it was difficult to identify mangas.

Do you agree?

We also should cleanup the categories. The category for Books is "Books", for Mangas its "Manga", for Soundtracks its "Soundtracks" and for Videos its "Video". No category for Multimedia yet! Should we use "Books, Mangas, Soundtracks, Videos" or "Book, Manga, Soundtrack, Video"? I prefer "Books, Mangas, etc." (plural). What's your choice?

  • Haven't thought much about the taxonomy, but "Manga" is the correct word, at least -- Mrgazpacho 01:16, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
    • So its one Manga, two Manga, three Manga, ... and not one Manga, two Mangas, three Mangas, ...?! Should we take more care about the correct taxonomy than a clean concept? Its just the name of the category which is not directly listed on the availability page. Even if "Mangas" is wrong, i think its more often used than "Manga" and we should follow that. -- an3k 06:25, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
      • It's more important to give correct information than to be incorrect simply because people use the wrong word. "Mangas" is no more correct than "sheeps" or "deers". --nihonTalk 06:18, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
      • Collins dictionary lists "manga" as one of those nouns that retains its singular form even when it is used in a plural case, e.g. the examples Nihon cited. As for creating a Manga category, I too think it's a good idea. I'm working on fleshing out the Kokuriko availability page - let's try the new breakout there and see how it looks and works. -- eishagishiTalk
  • I think creating a Manga category is a good idea. --nihonTalk 04:56, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

GKIDS links

The "Studio Ghibli Films" site link still links to a page about GKIDS' 2017 Ghibli Fest. It should probably link to either their site for the 2018 Ghibli Fest at http://ghiblifest.com/ or the page of their site listing all the Ghibli productions they have the North American rights to (after clicking on Studio Ghibli) at https://gkids.com/films/

Also, their official capitalisation of their name is to always write it as GKIDS.
