All about the director

From Up on Poppy Hill (コクリコ坂から Kokurikozaka kara?, the name "Kokuriko" comes from the French "Coquelicot" (Corn Poppy)), is the second Studio Ghibli full-length theatrical feature film directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son Gorō, and was officially announced on 8 December 2010. Hayao Miyazaki provided the storyboards and co-wrote the screenplay with Keiko Niwa for this adaptation of Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsurō Sayama’s 1980 shōjo manga, originally serialized in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi Shōjo magazine. This nostalgic and romantic coming-of-age tale about a pigtailed high school girl named Umi Matsuzaka is set in 1963 in the port city of Yokohama. The film opened in roadshow release on 457 screens in Toho theaters across Japan.
