Masashi Andou (安藤雅司 Andou Masashi?) was born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1969 and was one of the young rising stars at Studio Ghibli when he joined the studio in 1990. His first work at the studio was as an in-betweener for Only Yesterday in 1991. He was quickly promoted to a Key Animator position for Porco Rosso in 1992. After that he worked as as a Key Animator on Yamada-kun, a supervising animator on both On Your Mark and Mononoke Hime, and as an Animation Director on Spirited Away.

Andou has been a free-lancer since 2003 and has credits on other well-regarded anime titles such as Mamoru Oshii's Ghost in the Shell - Innocence, Mitsuo Iso's NHK TV series Dennou Coil, Satoshi Kon's Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika and Paranoia Agent, and in 2012, Hiroyuki Okiura's A Letter to Momo. Andou's most recent work with Studio Ghibli is as a writer, Character Designer, and Animation Director working on Hiromasa Yonebayashi's adaptation of When Marnie was There in 2014.
