Live Action Grave of the Fireflies In the Works

Screen Daily reports that Dresden Pictures is working on an live action adaptation of Grave of the Fireflies with shooting to start in 2014.

In related news GKids has acquired the North American theatrical rights to Grave of the Fireflies and is scheduling a 25th anniversary release in 2013. The film had not been part of GKids' traveling retrospective as the rights belonged to Toho.

Stage Adaptation of Princess Mononoke

Twitch has a lengthy interview with Alexandra Rutter, Artistic and Executive Director at Whole Hog Theatre in London about their upcoming (April 2013) staging of Princess Mononoke. The story remains the same but it'll be set to new music and done with both puppet and human characters.

A Kickstarter campaign is underway and they've reached almost 80% of their funding goal.

Dual Ghibli Retrospectives

The Studio Ghibli Retrospective by GKids is in two locations this month. Ghibli Blog has details on the Minneapolis screenings that run through November 29 while the IFC Center is hosting screenings through December 20.

Nausicaa Deluxe English Box Set, Kaze Tachinu and Kaguya-hime Monogatari Official Websites

Otaku Calendar has the press release from VIZ Media on the two volume set scheduled for release on November 6 with a MSRP of $60.

Distributor Toho registered domains for the Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) and Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (Princess Kaguya Story) official websites:

Toho acquired the Kokurikozaka domain name on Dec 13, 2010 and announced it on November 15, 2011.
