November 29, 2002 Updated: "Pom Poko" DVD English Subtitles Reappear
In the continuing battle between news sources, Jeremy Berot passed along this email from CD Japan:

----
We have asked Buena Vista Home Entertainment and Tokuma Japan Communications about that and both of them answered VWDZ-8020 (pompoko) does not carry English nor French subtitles.

We are sorry to tell you but we can do nothing with this matter and we have no idea why amazon.co.jp and Buena Vista inform that it contains subtitles.

If you would like to make sure, we recommend you to place an order after it's released.

We will identify the item's spec and update our website page if it contains English and French subtitles.

We are looking forward to your visit again to CDJapan.

Thank you for being a valuable customer of CDJapan.

Best Regards,
Yuri Akiyama

It seems the only sure method of determining the feature set will be to wait for the release date.

Update: Lee Johnson spotted an English subtitle option on the official Studio Ghibli DVD page.

November 26, 2002 Teto Plushies Reemerge
Teto (the fox squirrel from "Nausicaa") plushies are highly sought items since production ended in Japan over fiveteen years ago. But with the release of "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (Teto made a cameo in the film) on DVD two new plushies are being manufactured.

UFO Catcher is selling them on eBay and their online store. Other anime import shops might also stock the plushies.

November 4, 2002 Additional Australian Details for "Spirited Away"
Sylvester Ip wrote in to clarify the release details:

----
When it mentions nationally, it really means nationally. It will be hitting a total of 58 screens nationwide, (that's a lot, you'll be hard pressed not to find one locally. Australia's biggest cinema chain only has around 60 cinemas, just want to clarify this as it seems that there are hundreds of cinemas in the USA) art house cinemas and possibly some bigger cinemas will be showing some sessions subtitled while most will receive the dub print.. I expect the movie will run through all of the school summer holidays here in Australia, the DVD release is expected to come around April 2003, English, Japanese audio. This is based off the French R2 release so there will be no red tint and of course will be PAL since it's the Australian standard.
