On March 30th, Mitaka City officially asked Ghibli and Tokuma Publishing to
build a museum in Inokashira Park. (It seems that the plan got an approval
from the city counsel.)

The museum, tentatively named "Ghibli no Mori Bijyutsukan (Ghibli's Forest
Museum)", will be built in the western part of the park, which is currently
being expanded. The museum is planned to be opened in the fall of 2001.

Ghibli's official home page now has a page about the museum at
http://www.ntv.co.jp/ghibli/museo/index.html. It's in Japanese, but you can
see the symbol mark of the museum, designed by Miyazaki. It is supposed to be
a "shy cockroach".

To build, plan, and manage the museum, Tokuma publishing has established a new
company, Museo DfArte Ghibli. It means gGhibli Museumh in Italian.
Currently, it has 8 staff members, and has an office in gButaya (Pigfs
House)h, Miyazaki-fs personal studio.

The construction of the museum will start in 2000. The construction site is
about 2,000 square meters of land. It is designed by Miyazaki, and staff
members are currently building a model of the museum.
