The production announcement of Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Film Director Hayao MIYAZAKI, nationwide Touhou Group) Studio Ghibli anime's latest work, which will be presented to the public in July took place on (March) 26th, at Edo-Tokyo Building park in the Kougenai-shi, suburb of Tokyo; participating (among others) was Rumi Hiiragi (age 13), whose first challenge as a voice actress is the role of the girl protagonist.

It's the story of a really "present-day child" heroine who loses her way in a "land of mystery" and whose "Power of Living" is gradually awoken. Speaking of Hiiragi, she became famous with the child role in the NHK "morning drama" Suzuran (Lily of the Valley), but this time she also got the leading role in an audition. She says, "because there is a voice which I can only make while moving around, acting with the voice alone is difficult" For this reason, she has been practicing zealously every day without letting the script out of her grasp.

Film Director Miyazaki says, "The girl in the movie is not beautiful, but Hiiragi-san is cute," (and) gazes at her with an affectionate look as if (she is his own) grandchild. They aim at (making Sen) a hit surpassing the record-setting 11,200,000,000-yen earnings of Mononoke Hime, (which was) Ghibli's first nationwide release. There are also plans to screen (Sen) overseas - in Korea, America, and other countries.
