SYDNEY, Oct. 13 --

Sydney Olympic organizers said Wednesday that some masters of Japanese
animation will be included in the program for the cultural festival at next
year's Olympic Games.

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Festival will pay tribute to such Japanese animation
greats as the late Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Astro Boy and Hayao Miyazaki,
director of recent box office movie hit "Princess Mononoke ."

Festival director Leo Scofield said that an appearance by blind tenor Andrea
Bocelli, an exhibition of works from Leonardo da Vinci, and performances from
dances companies and orchestras from around the world will also highlight the
program scheduled to run from Aug. 18 to Sept. 30.

Scofield said the program, costing 4 million Australian dollars (about 2.6
million U.S. dollars), is aimed at complementing the sports events and will
include some 4,000 performers and artists in 53 major productions.
