Studio Ghibli and Mitaka City is planning to build an art museum in Inokashira
Park, Tokyo.

Tentatively named as "Ghibli no Mori Bijyutsukan (Ghibli's Forest Museum)",
the museum will be designed by Miyazaki himself, and will open in year 2001.

The museum will exhibit cels, imageboards, background picutres and such from
the past Ghibli films. Miyasaki will produce (not direct, AFAIK) several short
films to be screened at this museum.

The plan still needs to pass the city council.

The construction cost is said to be about 2billion yen. Tokuma Publishing will
build the museum, and donate it to Mitaka City, in which the Inokashira Park
is. Studio Ghibli used to be located near the Inokashira Park until 1992, when
the moved to the current studio in Higashi Koganei City.

Tokuma has established a new company, Musseo-Darte-Ghigli for the museum
construction. Goro Miyazaki, a son of Miyazaki, is the president of the company.
