The following info is from Houchi Shinbun, a Japanese Sports Newspaper, so
please take it with a grain of salt. Houchi has a tendency to report
something still in the planning stage as a done deal.

According to Houchi on July 9, 1999 (reprinted at

Japanese, thanks Mohri-San!):
*MH will be released on Oct. 29th. (The article is still saying "to be
screened at more than 1,000 theaters in 100 cities." but this seems to be
plain wrong)
*Miyazaki-San and Mr. Suzuki will tour around the US for two weeks, starting
on Sept. 3rd. They will attend the Telluride Film Festival, Toronto Film
Festival, and New York Film Festival. They will also attend the screenings
which will be held all over the US, and "Ghibli Retrospective" program at
MoMA in NY in the end of September, which will screen all of 11 Ghibli
films.
*Premiere will be held right before the US release, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Gore
will attend. And "a certain big-name American band" will play live.
Miyazaki-San, Mr. Suzuki, and Mr. Tokuma will attend the premiere as well.
*The production of the French version of MH has been proceeding well.
Julliete Binoche "is planned to play a role" in the French dub.
*The article says, "In the US, there has been already a big buzz among anime
film fans. For example, Anime Fantastique, the top movie magazine, has an
opening article with bold letters, 'Get ready for PRINCESS MONONOKE'. " (Now
you can tell how trustworthy this Houchi article is. ^^;)
*The English version of "Laputa" will be released in the US in the end of
this year. (IIRC, Disney has not set the date for Laputa yet)
*The article also says that "Yamada-Kun", the new film by Ghibli, will be
released in Japan on July 17th. It was moved from originally planned July
10th, due to production delay.
